Guía arqueológica de españa
Published in Paperback by Alianza Editorial (1997)
Author: James M. Anderson
Average review score:

baedeker of archeology
This isn't a book of Archeology: is a practical guide of the archeological sites in Spain form Stone Age to the Arab invasion. As Spain I think still has many unexplored sites, the author indicates those yet known though many times almost abandoned. For that he marks the routes, frequently far from populate cities because the distribution of the demography in Spain now is very irregular so, the interior is almost empty compared with the two big capitals and the Mediterranean coast. So this is as an archaeological Baedeker and no doubt the author has taken a big effort in finding, arriving and be oriented in difficult places, because Spanish ground is frequently very irregular and rough, not as France or Germany, countries much more explored and well indicated with warnings and posters until its minor findings. In Spain the pre or protohistoric places are located surely with full purpose in almost inaccessible locations, caves, etc. which need much further investigation. The period studied are from 3000 BC in the case of Tartessos, yet cited in the Bible, until about 1000 AC.

Halloween Party
Published in Paperback by MacMillan Pub Co (January, 1979)
Authors: John Lonzo Anderson and Adrienne Adams

A Real Treat for Halloween
Halloween Party by Lonzo Anderson is currently reigning as my favorite children's book of all time. I first read this book when I was a kindergartner (a few years back). My elementary school was on a quiet little street lined with mature trees and spooky old brick Victorian homes draped in moss. I remember looking out the library window while I was reading and feeling chills.

Faraday Folsum (what a name!) gets lost in the woods en route to a Halloween party. He stumbles upon a birthday party for Otto, the oversized child of some ogres. Faraday hides behind a tree but is discovered when Otto and his witch and goblin friends play hide and seek. Is this the end for Faraday...?

This is not a scary story by today's standards. No one would be frightened; not even the most timid child. The illustrations are incredible, and I think the plot and story line are adorable. The hardcover edition of this book is rather hard to come by, but I have a precious copy all to myself. It sits in among my gazillions of other children's books and beckons to be read from time to time. Find a rare copy of the hardcover edition. It's a great and fun read!

A Headache in the Pelvis: A New Understanding and Treatment for Prostatitis and Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndromes
Published in Hardcover by National Center for Pelvic Pain Research (February, 2003)
Authors: Rodney Anderson and David Wise
Average review score:

the techniques in this book healed me completely
I suffered from prostatitis/CPPS for 3 years and my life became absolutely miserable. I received 4 different diagnoses from 4 urologists, tried over 20 prescription medications, vitamins and herbs and underwent several very uncomfortable and expensive procedures, all of which did hardly anything to help my symptoms which had slowly increased in intensity over time (sound familiar?) Eventually I met one of the authors of this book, David Wise, and he taught me the techniques described in the book. Slowly I began to heal myself, without any medication. Six months later my symptoms were diminished significantly and nine months later I felt I was healed. It is now 2 1/2 years after I first started to practice these methods and I feel that I have been freed of this horrific condition. I cannot recommend this book highly enough for those who are still suffering. There are many schools of thought regarding this syndrome and I studied all of them obsessively at one time. I feel very strongly however that over the coming years the ideas in this book will eclipse the other models of this disease and come to be recognized as the most powerful methods for dealing with it as more and more people are seen to have solid and long-lasting benefits. Mine is not the last testimonial you will see. I should say however that it is not a simple or quick solution and it requires a lot of devotion, but chances are the end-result will be your freedom. Best of luck, do not abandon hope until you have given these methods your most sincere effort.

Heads of the Masters
I was looking for the appropriate gift for a friend (who has everything!)-- not too expensive but thoughtful. This is it! Heads of the Master is a well illustrated, whimsical and knowledgeable text for the art enthusiast. Fine art happens to be my major. It is evident the author has an underlying appreciation and understanding for the Master's works. The subject of toilets is a delightfully humorous approach that conveys both the art history and the essence of these styles. Displayed in the bathroom the book is great entertainment for my guests. I often get their comments. The quiz at the back of the book is fun and educational. This book is also a great incentive for a unique "stocking stuffer" and/or a hostess gift in-a-pinch!

Heikki Heikkinen and Other Stories of Upper Peninsula Finns
Published in Paperback by North Star Press of St. Cloud, Inc. (01 June, 1995)
Author: Lauri Anderson
Average review score:

The Finn in me
Stubborn, ignorant, unneighborly. That's what we Finns sometimes are here in the Old Continent. That's what they seem to be in Michigan, particularly in Upper Peninsula, particularly in Keweenaw Peninsula. Other folks live somewhere else. they are beyond Mackinac Bridge, i. e. downstaters or they are some odd relatives from Florida who have lost their ability to survive in real "Finnish" circumstances of cold weather, snow or rain. After having read many hilarious stories about us Finns here in Finland by Finnish authors it's been a fun to find out that a writer of Finnish descent could catch the same proudly humbleness (or is it humble pride?) where vices are almost virtues. But a reader wonders if anybody could get offended because nobody is serious. Except in "An Odd Collection of Finns" where more tragical elements of being an immigrant suddenly arise as a main theme. Even these extraordinary stories could not arouse the interest beyond the readers of Finnish origin I sincerely recommend them to the folks in both sides of Mackinac Bridge - or should I say in both sides of Atlantic Ocean?

Herbal Medicines: A Guide for Health Care Professionals
Published in Hardcover by Rittenhouse Book Distributors (January, 1996)
Authors: Joanne Barnes, Linda A. Anderson, and J. D. Phillipson
Average review score:

A landmark reference
First published in 1996, this book stands as a landmark reference work on herbal medicines for health professionals, particularly pharmacists. The authors are all affliliated with the Department of Pharmacognosy, The School of Pharmacy, University of London, and the book was commissioned by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain in response to the many questions they were fielding on herbal medicines from practicing pharmacists. This is not a book that will interest most lay people as it is quite technical in its approach to the topic. The book, however, is very readable, despite being technical. It is organized around 141 monographs on individual medicinal plants. Each monograph includes species, synonyms, parts used, availability of other pharmaceutical monographs, legal category of product (in Great Britain), constituents, food use, herbal use, pharmacological actions, side effects & toxicity, contraindications & warnings, a pharmaceutical comment from the authors, and references. The monograph sections on pharmacological actions summarize both animal and human studies. In addition to the 141 monographs on individual medicinal plants, the book has a number of quick reference tables, e.g. potential drug/herb interactions, listings of ingredients by their primary activity, e.g. cardioactive, laxative, diuretic, hypotensive, hypertensive, anticoagulant (etc.), and listing of ingredients by constituents, e.g. coumarins, flavonoids, saponins (etc.). The book begins with a list of potential adverse effects of the herbal ingredients listed in the monographs and another list of herbal ingredients that is is best to avoid or use with caution during pregnancy. The book is well-referenced throughout, including a listing of general references at the beginning of the book.

Cuddle and Sing
I received Debby Anderson's Here and There, Everywhere! Jesus Is with Me boardbook as a baby gift for my son. Like the it says on the cover "cuddle and sing", this book really allows you to cuddle with your child as you sing the words of the book to the tune of jingle bells.

My son just loved looking at the simple but adorable illustrations while we sang the words on each page. The unique method of singing the book to him held his attention and now he even sings the book while playing or in the bathtub.

We also received "Jesus Loves the Little Children" and this one is just as wonderful to have in your child's book collection.
